In early 1943, the Waffenamt commissioned a new Tiger tank with a larger turret to accommodate the formidable 8.8cm L/71 gun, enhancing its combat prowess and survivability. The frontal armor was bolstered to 150mm, while the sides remained at 80mm. A striking wooden model was unveiled in October 1943, drawing immediate attention. Production commenced in November, initially featuring the Porsche turret with its distinctive curved front plate. On December 6th, the Waffenamt mandated a redesign to eliminate the shot-trap, resulting in a reduced frontal area and a bell-shaped mantlet. By March 1945, 489 Royal Tigers, or 'King Tigers', had been manufactured. Most were assigned to independent heavy tank detachments due to their immense size, weight, and slower maneuverability. This 1:72 scale replica, equipped with a Porsche turret, was used in the Ohrdruf Training Area in Alsace during June 1944.
