Bruce Lee Martial Arts design. Bruce Lee was a cultural icon and phenomenon who was instrumental in bringing the martial arts film genre to the masses and to North American and European audiences in the early 1970s. Born Lee Jun Fan November 27, 1940 in San Francisco, Bruce was the son of Lee Hoi Chuen, a singer with the Cantonese Opera. The family moved back to Kowloon in Hong Kong shortly after that where at a young age, Bruce was put forward for children's roles in minor films. He was inspired to learn martial arts after being beaten up by a street gang. He would go on to spend 5 years learning wing chun kung fu, this being the only formal martial arts training he received. Growing up in Hong Kong and getting into trouble with the police for fighting, Lee headed to the United States at the suggestion of his parents, where he would go on to study and become associated with key martial arts and television figures in the US. After building his career in the acting world he went on to achieve massive success with films Fists of Fury, Way of the Dragon, Return of the Dragon, Enter the Dragon and Game of Death, which was completed with footage remaining from before his untimely death at the age of 32.
